Check out what's new and improved at Camp Riverbend for 2013!
Legoland on the Passaic: Camp Riverbend is creating our very own LegoLand for this summer. We have buckets and tubs of Legos and Mega Bloks, which will stay in the Legoland cabin. Its a great place for groups to go for a PIY or for our amazing Lego clubs to meet!
The Cookout Pavilion: Replacing a bubble tent, our Cookout Pavilion is currently under construction this month near karate and the high ropes course. It gives us much more room for cookouts, and another comfortable and roomy indoor space for rainy days!
3rd Grade Late Nite: More fun for campers as they grow up at Riverbend. Once during the summer, rising 3rd graders will stay late at camp for an afternoon of extra swimming and games, followed by dinner and a campfire with s'mores, songs and a fun campfire story to top off the evening. Parent pick-up at 7 pm.
Family Camp Day
Saturday October 20, 11 am - 2 pm
Why should kids have all the fun at camp?
Over 60 families participated in this year's Family Camp Day. Moms and Dads were on the zip line, canoeing to the bridge, and getting schooled by their kids in the finer points of gaga! It was a beautiful day at camp!
Want to try the awesome Caramel Apples we made? (You will need a candy thermometer for this recipe. Because of the hot caramel, adult supervision is a must!)
12 apples
1/4 cup butter
1 cup corn syrup
14 oz condensed milk
2 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Heat all the ingredients together (except vanilla extract) in a heavy 2 quart saucepan over medium/low heat. Stir constantly to prevent caramel from burning. When caramel reaches 235-240 degrees (soft ball stage), remove from heat and add vanilla. Let cool a few minutes. Put a popsicle stick into each apple, then dunk them into the caramel and swirl the apples away from the heat for a few minutes. Place the caramel-covered apples on a buttered cookie sheet. Let cool and then enjoy! This recipe makes 12 caramel apples.
Downward Dogs and Seated Butterflies
We are introducing Yoga at Camp Riverbend this summer. Our certified instructor will be guiding our campers through this ancient art. Campers will gain flexibilty, strength and learn calming techniques. What fun to experience the joys of yoga in an outdoor setting! Gives a new meaning to tree, butterfly and frog poses!
